Curator's Note

Edition de Tete first printWork on A Humument was started in 1966 and it began to attract notice almost immediately. The earliest printed version took the form of sets of boxed pages issued by the Tetrad Press between 1971 and 1976. The first trade edition was published by Thames & Husdon in association with Hansjörg Mayer in 1980 and this was followed by revised editions in 1987 and 1997. Each contained new pages to replace their earlier selves in a process whose goal is to make a final edition in which no page of the earliest version survives.

Edition de Tete second printThis third revised edition brings that enterprise virtually to the half way point. It also continues the long association between the artist and Hansjörg Mayer who first saw parts of A Humument in its beginning stages in 1967. Again he has prepared this current edition for the press. All the pages have been rescanned from the originals. The artist wishes to thank Ruth and Marvin Sackner for their kind cooperation. The entire manuscript is in their archive in Miami Beach, Florida.
